Just nutty.

Max slept till 8:55 this morning, sleeping off the late night in the ER and the meds he was given. He had an allergic reaction last night. Paul had given him one M&M that was in a trail mix with cashews. We've done this before with no reaction, but had stopped doing it just in case there was ever a problem. (Also, I was tired of giving him M&Ms!) I guess Paul forgot that we had stopped doing this and gave him one late yesterday afternoon. Because the bag was in the hot vehicle, the M&M was melted inside the shell and must have absorbed more of the oils from the nuts, so it caused a reaction. At bedtime last night he came to show me the itchy spots on his tummy, chest, back, hips. (Photos below.) He even had a little allergy welt by his eye where he must have touched it after eating the M&M with the cashew oil on it. I gave him Benadryl and Paul called his mom, who is a nurse. She said we should take him to the ER, just in case his breathing changed. He was SO EXCITED to go to the new hospital! The nurses were all charmed by him, as usual. When the triage nurse asked Max to lift up his shirt, he whispered to Paul, "Dad, when you saw my tummy, you said 'Holy cow!'". The rash had subsided from the Benadryl, but the Dr. gave him another med to flush his system, plus another one to prevent him from getting a tummy ache from the one that will do the flushing. He needs to take these once a day for 5 days. This morning he choked back the first 5mL dose and said "it tastes yuckier than ... (searching for the right word) ... than ... than ... water." I tasted it a bit too, and it's got a pretty nasty kick to it. Now we wait 30 minutes to have some food and then take 15 mL of the real stuff. That should be interesting. I hope it's not so potent. He told me we need some orange juice, because the Dr. gave him some at the hospital. I guess we'll need to go get some.

Also, Marty has a pretty noisy cough this morning.
